Nine players on No. 2 Northwestern’s roster received All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Senior attacker Madison Taylor and junior midfielder Noel Cumberland were named to the conference’s first team. Sophomore attacker Aditi Foster, graduate student midfielder Annabel Child, redshirt sophomore midfielder Madison Smith, redshirt junior midfielder Jaylen Rosga and graduate student goalkeeper Jenika Cuocco all received nods to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
This is the third straight year on the All-Big Ten First Team for Taylor, who leads the conference and the Wildcats in points with 104 so far this season. She was also chosen as the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this year after tallying a total of nine goals, three assists and eight draw controls in NU’s wins over then-No. 22 Rutgers and then-No. 11 Michigan.
After notching eight points across her first two seasons, Cumberland has already tallied 22 points en route to her first All-Big Ten honor. She has also controlled 10 draws and caused two turnovers.
Foster has cemented herself as the ’Cats’ No. 2 scoring option behind Taylor, tallying 50 points so far this season. She has more than tripled her scoring output from her first year. Child has shined on both ends of the field, recording 10 points, picking up 23 ground balls and causing 11 turnovers. She is one of six Big Ten players with at least 20 ground balls, 10 points and 10 caused turnovers.
Smith has shined as NU’s primary draw taker after missing most of last season due to injury, as she is one of six players in the Big Ten with at least 90 draw controls. She has also tallied 25 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Rosga has made similar defensive contributions, picking up 18 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers.
Cuocco picked up where she left off at Drexel, where she won three Coastal Athletic Association Goalie of the Year awards, continuing her dominance between the pipes. She ranks second in the conference in goals against average, saves per goal and save percentage.
Freshman attacker Kate Ratanaproeksa and freshman defender Mckenzie Brown were both selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Ratanaproeksa, a unanimous selection, has started every game for the ’Cats this season, tallying five goals, two assists, 31 draw controls, 14 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Brown, the No. 9 recruit for the Class of 2025 according to Inside Lacrosse Women’s rankings, has started all but three games, picking up 14 ground balls and causing 12 turnovers.
Graduate student goalkeeper Cara Nugent was chosen as NU’s honoree for the Sportsmanship Team.
The ’Cats return to action on Friday, when they face the winner of No. 4-seed Michigan and No. 5-seed Penn State in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
