No. 19 Northwestern placed ninth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Hosted by the University of South Carolina, the tournament brought together 17 teams at the Long Cove Club from March 2 to 4. Three Wildcats finished in the top 50.
Junior Ashley Yun, the only ’Cat to end a round below par, tied with sophomore Megan Meng for 25th. After scoring one under par in the third and final round of the tournament, Yun jumped up thirteen places from her original position. Her third round result, combined with her even par finish from the second round and six over par finish in the first round, gave her an overall result of five over par.
Meng opened the tournament three over par before finishing the second round at par. In her final round, she scored two above par, tying her with Yun for 25th.
Senior Dianna Lee was the last ’Cat to make the top 50, finishing 48th. She was the only one of her teammates to end the first round at par — the others all finished at least three above par. However, she finished six over par and four over par in rounds two and three, respectively, dropping her in the tail end of the top 50.
Sophomore Hsin Tai Lin finished 52nd, and freshman Lauren E. Lee finished 58th.
NU will return to action at the PING/ASU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona from March 23 to 25.
