Senior Daniel Svärd placed sixth individually at The Prestige at PGA West en route to a team sixth-place for Northwestern Tuesday in La Quinta, Calif.
Svärd, who is ranked No. 71 in the nation, finished the two-day tournament’s first round with a 3-over 74. Junior Jeremy Chen was the only Wildcat to earn a below-par result in the first round, finishing a 1-under 70.
In the second round, Svärd cleared the other ’Cats, finishing a 5-under 66 par. His result was the second-best of all competitors in the round, beaten only by Texas Tech’s Price Hill’s 6-under 65. Senior Ethan Tseng also finished below par, scoring a 1-under 70. Redshirt sophomore Rowan Sullivan was the only other ’Cat who didn’t finish above par, ending with an even-par 71 result.
Due to weather conditions, the third round, scheduled for Wednesday, was canceled. Only rounds one and two counted for final scoring.
NU’s combined team score was seven above par, tying with North Alabama for sixth place. Svärd also finished in a tie for sixth, sharing the position with Kansas’ Arthur Carlier.
Tseng ended 29th, Chen and Sullivan tied for 41st and freshman Monty Holcombe finished 66th.
The ’Cats return to action at the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton, S.C. from March 1 to 2.
