If you’re looking for weekend plans, here are some performances you won’t want to miss. 

Violet

Ethel M. Barber Theater

Friday and Saturday 7:30 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m.

Tickets: $6-30

Based on the short story “The Ugliest Pilgrim” by Doris Betts, “Violet” tells the story of a young girl scarred by an axe as a child and her search for a TV evangelist she believes will make her “beautiful.” The musical was the winner of the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, and features music from Tony award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori.

Fun Home

Norris University Center Louis Room

Friday 7 and 10 p.m. and Saturday 2 and 7 p.m.

Tickets: Free admission

Northwestern’s WAVE Productions presents its week 7 show Fun Home. The coming-of-age musical follows the life of author Alison Bechdel through her childhood, college years and adulthood as she grapples with the impact her younger years have on her present-day life. 

A Mirror is Not a Window: Roe Versus Wade

Mussetter-Struble Black Box Studio Theatre

Sunday 1 p.m.

Tickets: Free admission

A reading of award-winning novelist and non-fiction writer Sarah Schulman’s new play about the two women — the lawyer and the plaintiff of Roe v. Wade — who argued the case before the Supreme Court. The play explores the lasting divisions in America following the decision.
