Evanston’s beaches are a staple of any north suburban kid’s summers — believe me, I drove to the city any chance I could in the precious months of summer during high school.
Now that I’m here for college, I can’t help but find beauty in Lake Michigan all year round, even during the winter.
Of course, summer is a special time on the North Shore. The water is vibrant, refreshing and salt-free — take that, coasts. There’s something magical about sailboats dotting the view in front of Chicago’s unmatched skyline.
Even now, though, when the wind is unbelievably bitter and the waves sound like Punxsutawney Phil saying, “I told you so,” I still find the time for short visits to the lake now and then.
One of the best things about Clark Street Beach is that it’s located near Northwestern but also feels like a place for the entire Evanston community. On any warm day, there’s a mix of college students and residents enjoying the beach in the shadow of some of the University’s most beautiful buildings.
Clark Street Beach is truly one of the reasons I was so drawn to NU and Evanston. I implore readers to appreciate our gorgeous shoreline as much as possible — whether or not it’s a “beach day.”
