Senior attacker Madison Taylor and coach Kelly Amonte Hiller took home two of the Big Ten’s individual awards, the conference announced Tuesday.
Taylor won Big Ten Attacker of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Amonte Hiller was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season. Northwestern was one of two schools, along with Johns Hopkins, to receive two awards.
Taylor leads the conference with 111 points so far this season, more than 20 points ahead of the players in second place. She has tallied 80 goals and 31 assists, and she has 10 games with at least six points.
The Wantagh, New York, native led the Wildcats in points during each of the past three seasons. She needs 29 more points this season to pass former attacker Izzy Scane for most career points in program history.
Taylor was named to the All-Big Ten First Team on April 21 and has picked up three Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Amonte Hiller’s team boasts the best scoring offense and the second-best scoring defense in the conference. She has led her squad to a 10-game win streak after opening the season with a 5-3 record.
En route to capturing its fourth consecutive Big Ten regular season title, NU defeated nine ranked opponents, including two wins over the No. 1-ranked team in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. In the Big Ten Tournament, the ’Cats took down No. 4-seed Michigan before beating No. 2-seed Maryland in overtime to clinch their fourth straight Big Ten Tournament championship.
The conference tournament title gave NU automatic admission to the NCAA Tournament. The team will learn its seeding during Sunday’s selection show at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
