Evanston-based artist Nora O’Connor has won Best Local Artist for her unique sound and gripping lyricism.
With a mix of folk and country rock, O’Connor pours her heart and soul into every song that features her melodious voice.
For decades, O’Connor performed around the world as a backup singer and multi-instrumentalist for artists like Iron & Wine, Andrew Bird, Robbie Fulks and Mavis Staples. When the COVID-19 pandemic prevented her from touring as much, she returned to writing in her spare time.
She recently performed at Evanston SPACE as part of the cover band Soft Opening.
In 2022, she released “My Heart,” her first release since her album “Til The Dawn” in 2004.
“My Heart,” showcases her soulful voice as she sings heartfelt lyrics about relationships, love and loss. From upbeat to slower ballads, each song brings the listener along for the emotional ride that O’Connor creates.
Our favorite part of O’Connor’s music is that she does not try to sound like a lot of today’s mainstream music, instead sticking to her roots. She feels relatable in a fresh way.
If you’re looking for more local talent to liven up your day, O’Connor fits the bill.
