Former Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Superintendent Devon Horton’s trial date has been set for Oct. 21, a Tuesday court filing shows. Horton will face a three-week jury trial for counts of embezzlement and fraud.
In the fall, Horton and three others were indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on 17 counts of embezzlement, wire fraud and tax fraud for alleged activities tied to his leadership of District 65. Horton pleaded not guilty to all charges during an October arraignment.
Horton served as the superintendent of District 65 from 2020 to 2023 before moving to Georgia and leading the DeKalb County School District until his resignation on Oct. 15.
Separately, Horton faces charges of cruelty to children and aggravated assault in Georgia in January. He was granted a $25,000 bond after his wife suggested Horton’s actions stemmed from stress related to his federal charges in Illinois.
A trial date has not yet been set in Georgia.
