Northwestern softball won its weekend series against Illinois after nabbing the second game of a double-header Sunday. The win marked head coach Kate Drohan’s 800th of her coaching career.

The Wildcats grabbed game one 4-3 on the back of a seven-strikeout complete game from graduate student pitcher Lauren Boyd. In game two, NU’s lone run came from junior infielder Bridget Donahey. In the loss, the ’Cats’ first conference defeat of the season, sophomore pitcher Riley Grudzielanek recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts. In the rubber match, NU took down the Fighting Illini 8-2. Three players recorded two hits, including junior infielder Kansas Robinson, who notched a home run and four RBIs.

The ’Cats host Nebraska this weekend as they continue their homestand.
