It was an eventful weekend for Northwestern as it powered through an intense schedule that featured two conference foes, Wisconsin and Nebraska, over a three-day span.

In their first matchup of the weekend, the Wildcats (8-15, 2-4 Big Ten) traveled to Nielsen Tennis Stadium to take on the Badgers (1-17, 0-5 Big Ten). NU secured a 5-2 win over the hosts but struggled to find its rhythm in the early portion of the match.

Sophomore Chad Miller and senior Saiprakash Goli lost the first advantage of the doubles portion, falling 6-3 at the hands of the freshman duo of Matthew Fullerton and Collin Beduhn.

Wisconsin was able to continue its hot start, nabbing the doubles portion to take a 1-0 lead, with Michael Minasyan and Gabriel Huber defeating the ’Cats’ senior Glen Blekher and junior Felix Nordby 6-3 on court one.

However, once the match switched over to singles, NU found momentum as it swept all but one court, securing a commanding 5-2 victory over the hosts.

In their second match of the weekend, the ’Cats visited Nebraska at the Dillon Tennis Center, but things didn’t go quite as well as they did in Madison, Wisconsin. The Cornhuskers handily defeated the ’Cats 6-1.

From the onset of the match, Nebraska seemed to be in firm control after winning both matches of the doubles portion, jumping out to an early 1-0 advantage.

Once the match switched over to singles, the Cornhuskers continued their blazing hot start, winning five out of the six singles courts, except for court one where senior Presley Thieneman defeated junior Anton Shepp with scores of 6-2, 6-7 and 1-0 in three sets.

NU will look to avenge its loss on Saturday when it travels to the Atkins Tennis Center to face cross-state rival Illinois.
