Though most residents were able to evacuate before EFD arrived, two residents suffered minor burns.

A fire in a high-rise apartment complex in downtown Evanston left two residents with minor injuries Friday night.

Evanston Fire Department officials responded to reports of a kitchen fire at 1501 Maple Ave. at about 6:45 p.m. Friday, according to an EFD news release. The entire eight-story structure was evacuated, and responders extinguished the fire within 20 minutes of arrival. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Though most residents were able to evacuate before EFD arrived, two residents suffered minor burns. They refused transportation to an emergency room, according to the release.

Two residents were also displaced due to “moderate smoke and water damage,” the release said.
