Mathematics Prof. Bryna Kra was named a 2023 Association for Women in Mathematics Fellow, the University announced Oct. 31.

Kra received the recognition for her work creating programs that support women in mathematics and her leadership in the mathematics community, according to the organization’s website.

Her work centers on ergodic theory and dynamical systems, or the long-term behavior of complex scientific systems, and has earned her past fellowships from the American Mathematical Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Kra serves as the Sarah Rebecca Roland Professor of Mathematics, an award honoring the first woman to receive an undergraduate degree from NU in 1874.

Kra received the fellowship along with 12 other women, who will be honored at a ceremony on Jan. 6 in Boston.
