A northbound Metra train collided with a semi truck in Wilmette on Thursday afternoon, halting train traffic in both directions on the Union Pacific North Line. The line goes through the Evanston Main Street, Davis Street and Central Street stops.
Two passengers were taken to Endeavor Health’s Evanston Hospital for minor injuries, Wilmette Fire Chief Brian Lambel told the Evanston RoundTable.
The crash occurred at the crossing of Green Bay Road and Linden Avenue.
Metra released a service alert at about 2:45 p.m., informing riders that UP-N Train 337 to Kenosha was stopped near Wilmette due to a “vehicle struck by a train.”
A Metra statement released shortly after the incident stated there would be significant delays and advised riders to find alternative transportation. Metra later released a statement announcing that UP-N outbound trains 345, 355, 357 and 361 and inbound trains 354, 360, 362 and 368 would not run Thursday evening.
All outbound and inbound UP-N trains on track two, where the crash occurred, are now moving with “extensive delays,” according to the most recent Metra alert.
The cause of the crash is unclear.
The Evanston Police Department did not respond to The Daily’s request for comment by the time of publication.
