Northwestern indoor track collected a first-place finish, a second-place finish and 11 other top 12 results at the UW Preview and Pat Heenan Invitational this weekend.
Four Wildcats traveled to Seattle, Washington, to compete in the 3,000-meter run at the University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor Facility. Graduate student Anna Hightower placed second overall with a time of 9:11.34 just a month after making her indoor track debut in December.
Redshirt sophomore Ava Criniti, senior Maddy Whitman and junior Jackie Holman finished 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively, all clocking personal bests.
Criniti’s time of 9:22.95, a 24-second improvement from her previous personal best, moved her to eighth on Northwestern’s 3,000-meter run record board. Whitman climbed to ninth while beating her personal best by 34 seconds and Holman moved to 10th after shaving 28 seconds off her previous top time.
Northwestern also competed at the Pat Heenan Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
Nine Wildcats finished inside the top 12 of the 1-mile run. Redshirt freshman Cary Drake topped the time chart with a 4:54.45, while senior Mia Mraz, redshirt sophomore Kailey Zagst and freshman Allegra Massey finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, all earning personal bests.
Mraz shaved 20 seconds off her previous personal record with a 4:56.47, while Zagst ran a 5:02.87 and Massey a 5:07.12. Freshman Olivia Capala, senior Mallory Grubb, freshman Katherine Klimek, freshman Jaya Simmons and freshman Marley McCullough rounded out the top 12.
Northwestern will return to indoor competition at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Jan. 30 and 31.
