Sophomore Ashley Yun finished in second place as No. 12 Northwestern claimed second overall at the NCAA Norman Regional, punching its ticket to the NCAA Championship Finals for a third consecutive season.
Yun carded a 7-under 209 as the Wildcats finished with a team 14-under at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma.
She leapt to an impressive start with a 3-under 69 before following up her first 18 holes with a pair of 2-under 70 rounds, sinking 16 birdies over 54 holes to finish a stroke behind champion Andrea Revuelta of Stanford — the No. 8-ranked golfer in the country.
Senior Lauryn Nguyen made five birdies in the final round to finish with a 2-under 214, good enough for eighth place.
Freshman Hsin Tai Lin finished 14th with a 1-over 217. After shooting even in the first round, she blazed a 5-under 67 in the second round, including a two-shot eagle on the par-4 17th hole, resulting in being tied for first place after 36 holes. She shot a 6-over 78 during the final 18 holes, dropping her 13 places to 14th.
Freshman Elise Lee made an eagle on her final hole of the tournament to finish with a 1-under 71, soaring up 15 places in the final round to finish 17th with a 2-over 218.
Junior Dianna Lee shot a 2-over 74 in the first round, 2-under 70 in the second round and 2-over 74 in the final round to finish a 2-over 218, tying with Lee for 17th.
The top five placing teams advanced to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship Finals, held May 16-21 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
By placing second in the 12-team field, NU will join No. 1 Stanford, No. 24 Michigan State, No. 36 Oklahoma and No. 37 Baylor in the Golden State.
