Interfaith Action of Evanston held its sixth annual Walk for Warmth Monday morning in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The walk aimed to raise money for the Overnight Shelter, which provides rooms to those without homes from mid-October to mid-May and has a maximum capacity of 30. Nine places of worship in Evanston host this shelter.
For the second year in a row, the two-mile walk was made optional due to frigid temperatures, and walkers could instead walk a half-mile version around the First United Methodist Church area.
Interfaith Action President Donna Richardson said the goal of the fundraiser was to raise $38,000. As of Monday morning, the organization has raised $22,000.
