Head coach David Braun appears to be making significant strides in solidifying next season’s coaching staff, as Northwestern is expected to hire Washington analyst Paul Creighton for its tight ends coach and special teams coordinator vacancies, 247 Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported Thursday.

Replacing Jeff Genyk who was relieved of both tight ends coach and special teams coordinator duties following the Wildcats’ Las Vegas Bowl victory, Creighton will depart Seattle after his team’s national title push came up just short against Michigan.

A Colorado native, Creighton walked on to Colorado University’s football team as a fullback and tight end, earning a scholarship after one semester. He first served as a graduate assistant at Auburn in 2007 and 2008, before returning to Colorado as a defensive graduate assistant for the next two seasons.

Creighton was hired as a defensive line coach at Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2011, where he coached three professional players throughout three seasons . Accepting the tight ends coach role at UC Davis in 2014, Creighton worked alongside Braun during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

After six seasons in California, then-head coach Kalen DeBoer hired Creighton as Fresno State’s tight ends coach in 2020. The Bulldogs led the Mountain West in total offense in both 2020 and 2021.

Creighton came to Washington alongside DeBoer in 2022 and served as a quality control coach working with the Huskies’ special teams units. Washington ranked 12th in kickoff return defense and tied for 14th in punt return defense in 2023.
