The smells of dhal and the sounds of Bollywood music filled Norris University Center Sunday evening for Northwestern’s South Asian Students Alliance’s annual Diwali celebration. The event — co-sponsored by NU Religious & Spiritual Life, Multicultural Student Affairs and Hindu student group OM — commemorates Diwali, a festival that celebrates the Hindu near year and the triumph of light over darkness.
The night began with puja, a Hindu religious ceremony, before transitioning into a showcase of NU’s South Asian dance groups and a banquet with Indian delicacies.
