A search committee has been formed to find the next dean for Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, Provost Jonathan Holloway said in a Thursday email to Medill students and faculty.

The committee will immediately begin work to find a new dean through engaging the Medill community to see what qualities its members want, the email said. Medill Prof. Edward Malthouse will chair the 11-member committee, comprised of Medill faculty and one Medill undergraduate.

In July, interim dean Charles Whitaker succeeded Brad Hamm, who announced in April he would step down to take a one-year sabbatical before returning to Northwestern as a tenured journalism professor.

Hamm’s announcement came several months after Alec Klein, former director of the Medill Justice Project, faced allegations of harassment from several former students and employees. Hamm said at the time the allegations didn’t factor into his decision to step down.
