Theft from hospital

An employee at Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., told police a theft occurred between 12:30 and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

The employee said an unknown person took a pair of eyeglasses, a medical spending card and $62 in cash from a purse that had been located in the hospital’s employee storage area.

There are no suspects, but police are investigating, Guenther said.

Neighbor thwarts car burglary

A juvenile attempting to burglarize a vehicle was chased away by the car’s owner and his neighbor when they caught him in the act Thursday afternoon, Guenther said.

Around 2:50 p.m., the neighbor flagged down police officers on patrol after she witnessed a male juvenile in dark clothing rifling through the vehicle on the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue. She said she pulled into the parking space behind the car and alerted its owner, who emerged from his house and startled the juvenile.

The car’s owner and his neighbor told police the juvenile then fled on the 1800 block of Lyons Street. Police later found someone matching the general description of the alleged burglar, but he was not positively identified.
