An Evanston Township High School District 202 Board of Education meeting was delayed Monday after an incident involving a reported trespasser, according to Evanston Police Department Cmdr. Kenneth Carter.
At the start of the meeting, students and board members were temporarily evacuated from the meeting room following an undisclosed interruption.
Carter told The Daily that EPD personnel responded to ETHS regarding a trespassing complaint before the meeting started, at around 7:50 p.m.
School personnel reportedly told responding officers that an individual who had previously been “advised not to be on school property” was present at the meeting, Carter said.
He added that officers escorted the individual from school premises and that the individual left the property “without incident.” According to Carter, no complaints were signed by school personnel or board members, and no arrests were made.
“We wanted to make sure you had no trauma this evening,” Board President Pat Savage-Williams told the students in attendance when they were allowed to return. “We took care of what we needed to take care of, and the police are now dealing with the situation, so we should be able to proceed with our meeting as planned.”
After Monday’s meeting, an ETHS spokesperson declined to comment on the incident and referred all questions to EPD.
