Weinberg junior Gauri Adarsh and Medill junior John Sisco were sworn in as co-presidents at the Associated Student Government’s Wednesday meeting. 

Adarsh and Sisco won the presidency in the campus-wide election Feb. 14. Their term runs until Spring 2027.   

ASG also swore in 10 new cabinet members, seven executive board members and a deputy speaker of the Senate. 

SESP first-year Jonathan Curbelo was sworn in as deputy speaker of the Senate. In his role, Curbelo will work with SESP junior and recently elected Speaker of the Senate Nur Yalinbas. 

“I’m excited to help the Speaker, Nur, out with whatever she needs,” Curbelo said. “I’m excited to learn and hopefully play a bigger role in the Senate this year and in the following years.” 

Before the swearing-in ceremony, ASG’s Academics Committee chairs announced that applications for the Student-Faculty Interaction Grant were open and encouraged attendees at the meeting to apply. 

ASG distributes the grant, available to any undergraduate student or faculty member, on a rolling basis, according to the application. The grant helps facilitate “out-of-classroom learning experiences” such as meals, museum exhibits and film screenings for students and faculty.

SESP sophomore Nicholas Williams was sworn in as executive officer of justice and inclusion. 

Williams said ASG is working with the Undergraduate International Student Advancement Council to host a cultural summit Friday on Cohen Lawn at Norris University Center. The event will feature cultural food, performances and opportunities to engage with different student organizations.

“The purpose of the event is to showcase the broad cultures that make up our NU experience because we live in such a diverse community at NU,” Williams said. 

Yalinbas said the Senate will reconvene next week to elect the Student Group Caucus whip and members of the Rules Committee.

The Rules Committee “goes over the constitution and looks it over to see if there are any rules that need to be changed,” Yalinbas said, while the Student Group Caucus whip acts as a leader for all the student organizations that have seats in the ASG Senate. 

In the meantime, Williams said he is working on plans to improve the University. 

“I can’t really share them now, but I’m definitely excited to step into the role,” Williams said.
