Coach Chris Collins is slowly rebuilding his squad after eight players transferred out of Northwestern, and he landed his first new addition through the portal Tuesday. Former Bellarmine forward Jack Karasinski is signing with the Wildcats, he announced via Instagram.
The Grand Rapids, Mich., native was rated as a four-star transfer by On3 and the 23rd-best small forward in the portal. He joins NU with one year of eligibility left.
A first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference Selection, Karasinski averaged 21.7 points per game this season — 12th in the country — on 56.1% shooting. He also shot 41.5% from 3-point range. Consistency was the name of his game, as he had just one game with single-digit points.
Despite playing for a mid-major program, Karasinski played four games against high-major programs this season. He scored 23 points against Georgia, 18 against Kansas State, 17 against Notre Dame and 24 against Kentucky.
Standing at 6-foot-7 and 215 pounds, Karasinski is most similar in frame to freshman forward Tre Singleton, who committed to Iowa State on Saturday. He outpaced Singleton in most offensive stats: Singleton averaged 18.5 points per 100 possessions, while Karasinski averaged 43.6.
Karasinski is, as of Tuesday morning, one of two forwards on NU’s roster. The roster for next season currently stands at seven players, including four returning guards, incoming freshman center Symon Ghai, incoming freshman small forward Jayden Hodge and Karasinski.
