Crave Cookies has entered Evanston’s dessert scene and is ready to offer a new sweet taste to the community. Franchise owner Sonam Patel said Crave Cookies delivers on its name.
“(It) serves fresh cookies to maybe satisfy your cravings,” Patel said.
Crave Cookies, located on 809 Church St., had its Evanston grand opening Jan. 17.
After only one bite, Chicago resident Amy Rogers thought the cookies were good. She said she would be there all the time if she was not trying to cut back on sugar for the new year.
The shop changes its menu every week, offering new flavors for people to try, including Dubai Chocolate, Stuffed Cookies ’N Cream and Better Than XXX.
“We are bringing freshly baked, yummy, gooey cookies, and we are changing the menu every week, so you won’t get bored from us,” Patel said.
The store also sells loaded sodas, which are a mixture of fruity syrups and soft drinks.
Communication freshman Caroline Place said, although she did not like the cookies, the loaded sodas reminded her of the dirty sodas from Utah — a customized, creamy soda drink.
“I think they’re really fun,” Place said.
Patel said new items await, such as cookie shakes and hot and cold coffees for those who do not like the store’s current offerings.
Although the establishment is new to the community, Patel said she believes it will be successful thanks to the foot traffic generated in downtown Evanston from Northwestern students.
Rogers said she thinks “of course they’re going to do well.”
Place said she believes Crave Cookies will have a positive impact on the community because of the store’s welcoming customer service.
While she thinks new places are always fun to try, she said she will still be frequenting Insomnia Cookies, which has a location close to Crave Cookies.
Some residents, like 1st Ward resident Amy Spotts, said they wonder why there was a need for another cookie store.
Spotts said there are other things Evanston could use downtown, and Insomnia has always delivered on its cookies. She will still try out Crave Cookies, but she said she would stay loyal to Insomnia unless Crave Cookies “blows her mind.”
Patel believes that baking their cookies in-house will distinguish Crave Cookies from what Insomnia provides. She hopes people will give her store a chance before they make up their minds about Crave Cookies.
“The only thing I would say, come try our cookies, try our drinks and then make a decision,” Patel said. “If you need a new taste, definitely stop by.”
