No. 6 Northwestern won the team title at the Tufts Invitational for the second straight year, finishing 4-0 Sunday, fueled by strong performances in the foil.
At the Gantcher Center, the Wildcats concluded the day 10-2 in duals against Wellesley, Brown, Tufts and No. 12 Cornell, with a 4-0 foil mark leading the charge. Sophomore Brianna Ho and senior Samantha Serban posted undefeated 8-0 and 6-0 marks, respectively, as the NU foilists finished 28-8 overall.
NU’s takedown of Cornell did not come easily, as it squeaked through a 14-13 victory. The foil and sabre groups each won 5-4, while the épée ended 4-5. Sophomore Nisha Hild won all three of her bouts against the Big Red.
In the morning, the ’Cats defeated Wellesley and Brown 20-7 and 16-11 with a 14-4 record in the foil. Later, they defeated the host Tufts 19-8 before taking down Cornell.
NU’s sabreists also logged strong performances, with senior Megumi Oishi finishing 6-0 as she brought her season-long dual record to 26-4. Freshman Elaine Lu was right behind with five wins.
Among the épéeists, senior Karen Wang compiled a 5-1 day, while senior Anna Damratoski, junior Christina Liu and junior Emma Ning each secured four wins.
