Perreault will take the helm of the Office for Research Sept. 15.

McCormick and Weinberg Prof. Ted Sargent will serve as co-executive director of the Paula M. Trienens Institute for Sustainability and Energy effective immediately, Northwestern announced Tuesday. Sargent will work alongside chemistry Prof. Michael Wasielewski, who currently serves as executive director of the institute.

Sargent joined NU in 2021 after serving as vice president of research and innovation at the University of Toronto. In a Tuesday news release, Sargent said he intends to work closely with other researchers to make further advancements in sustainable energy.

“Northwestern’s ongoing commitment to this research spans departments and schools, with many of our efforts flowing through the Trienens Institute,” Provost Kathleen Hagerty said in the release.

Sargent teaches in both the chemistry department in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and the electrical and computer engineering department in the McCormick School of Engineering. His laboratory in the chemistry department conducts research and development on climate science, including technology like carbon sequestration.
