Northwestern student Daniel Jessell was found dead on Wednesday, Dean of Students Todd Adams wrote in an email to Northwestern students late Wednesday evening.

Jessell was a Weinberg sophomore from Delray Beach, Florida. He lived in Kemper Hall.

“I am deeply saddened by this news, and I extend my deepest condolences to Daniel’s family and close friends as the University community offers support to them during this very difficult time,” Adams wrote in the email.

The cause of death is unknown. Evanston Police Department officers responded to a call in Kemper at 6:36 p.m. Wednesday, said Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew. EPD is investigating the case, which is currently under review by the Cook County medical examiner’s officer, Glew said. No further information is available, he said.

In his email, Adams recommended students having difficulty with the news of Jessell’s death reach out to Counseling and Psychological Services, the Dean of Students office, the Chaplain’s office or residential services staff.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated which day Evanston Police officers responded to Kemper Hall. It was on Wednesday. The Daily regrets the error.

This story was updated Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with new information from Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew.
