A Chicago man was arrested Wednesday night in connection with five charges, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, in south Evanston.

The 33-year-old man failed to signal properly while driving in the 400 block of Chicago Avenue and was pulled over by police, a news release said. The officers smelled cannabis on his breath and then searched the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, they found three grams of cannabis and a metal pipe, the release said. They also found nunchucks, two folding knives, a loaded .40-caliber handgun, a ski mask, a plastic skull mask and gloves.

The man was taken into custody and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon — a felony — and two misdemeanors, unlawful possession of cannabis and a traffic citation, according to the release.

Man arrested in connection with domestic battery incident

A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with domestic battery of his girlfriend in south Evanston.

The woman said they were driving in the 1400 block of Wesley Avenue when a verbal argument escalated and she exited the vehicle, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

The 28-year-old man also exited the vehicle, grabbed the woman by the neck and struck both of her arms, Dugan said. He was charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor.
