An Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery in north Evanston on Thursday morning.

The 27-year-old man’s wife called the police to their shared residence in the 1500 block of Emerson Street at 12:53 a.m. after being punched and kicked by her husband, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. Dugan said the couple got in an argument because the man wanted to consume alcohol, but the woman did not want him to.

Though the man said the physical altercation was mutual, Dugan said the man did not show any signs of injury while the woman had two bruises on her arm.

The man will appear in court on May 10.

An Evanston woman reported Wednesday that she was robbed while walking in central Evanston.

The 59-year-old Evanston resident said she was walking by the corner of Sheridan Road and Emerson Street at 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday when someone struck her, Dugan said. He said the woman became unconscious and fell to the ground.

When she came to, she realized her debit card and social security card had been stolen, Dugan said.
