University officials have received reports of illness in residents living in certain on-campus buildings, executive director of residential services Jennifer Luttig-Komrosky said in an email.

The cause of the illnesses is unknown, but Luttig-Komrosky said the symptoms of diarrhea, nausea and vomiting are consistent with “mild, self-limited viral infection.” Staff have received the reports over the past 24 hours, Luttig-Komrosky said.

Luttig-Komrosky said residential services staff is working to provide additional cleaning for “high-touch” areas such as bathrooms and community spaces. Evanston’s Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the source of the illness, Luttig-Komrosky said.
