The Daily Northwestern, Political Union to host mayoral debate

Nora Shelly, City Editor

The Daily Northwestern will partner with Political Union to host a mayoral debate on Feb. 7.

The event will feature all five mayoral candidates about a week before early voting begins on Feb. 13. A primary will be held for the election on Feb. 28. The top candidates will move on to a general election in April.

If one candidate wins more than 51 percent of the vote, they will be declared the winner, and there will be no general election.

Currently in the race are Ald. Mark Tendam (6th), Ald. Brian Miller (9th), businessman Steve Hagerty, former Evanston Township supervisor Gary Gaspard and lawyer Jeff Smith (Weinberg ’77).

Event attendees will have a chance to submit questions for the candidates to answer. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in Fisk Hall, room 217.
