Evanston man robbed near Evanston Township High School

Someone robbed a 21-year-old Evanston resident Sunday night at an intersection next to Evanston Township High School’s campus, police said.

The man was walking in the area of Dodge Avenue and Lake Street around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday when another man approached him and demanded the 21-year-old give him “anything he had,” Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

After the Evanston man gave up his Samsung phone, valued around $400, the other man fled on foot eastbound on Lake Street, police said.

Police are unsure if the 21-year-old is a Northwestern student, Dugan said.

Homeless woman charged with felony retail theft

Police arrested a homeless woman last week in connection with a theft at a CVS Pharmacy, officials said.

The woman was charged with felony retail theft because she had a prior conviction, Dugan said.

Officers responded to the CVS, 1711 Sherman Ave., around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday to a report that the 28-year-old woman had stolen multiple hygiene and food products, police said. She hid the items, valued a little over $23, in her pants and coat pockets before leaving the store without paying, Dugan said.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court June 8, police said.
