Window broken at car rental location

An unknown person made a hole in a window at a car rental location in downtown Evanston overnight last Monday, police said.

There is a 2-inch hole in the window of the southwest corner of the building, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, 1810 Maple Ave., Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

The employee who reported the incident said there is video surveillance of the area, but police have not yet reviewed it, Dugan said. There were rocks located around the area of the broken window, but nothing was found inside, Dugan added.

Chicago man arrested in connection with unlawful use of a weapon

A Chicago man was arrested in connection with unlawful use of a weapon early Wednesday morning, police said.

Dugan said an officer patrolling the area heard a vehicle alarm sounding in the 600 block of Oakton Street and saw two individuals walking away from the vehicle. One of the men, 18, had a set of brass knuckles and was charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of weapon, police said. Loose change and car chargers were found in his backpack, but police were unable to link those items to any vehicle burglaries in the area, Dugan said.

The man is scheduled to appear in court May 19.
