Evanston man arrested in connection with retail theft

An Evanston man, 39, was arrested in connection with retail theft on Wednesday, police said.

Police were called to the Walgreens at 635 Chicago Ave. after an employee reported the theft, Parrott said. The employee said the man had left the store and was heading northbound on Chicago Avenue, Parrott said.

The man ran from police when they attempted to stop him. Police arrested the man after finding him hiding in a stairwell in the 800 block of Hinman Avenue, Parrott said.

The employee identified the man, who was then charged with a felony due to a prior conviction for retail theft, Parrott said.
