Search committee chosen for new Weinberg dean

Rebecca Savransky, Campus Editor

Northwestern announced Monday the names of the members of the search committee to choose the next dean of Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences.

The candidate the group chooses will take the place of Sarah Mangelsdorf, who will assume the role of provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mangelsdorf announced her departure in April, and will leave NU for Madison in August.

English Prof. Wendy Wall will chair the search committee, which will be made up of members of the student body, the faculty, the staff and the Weinberg board of visitors. Weinberg junior Hannah Bredar will serve as the student member on the committee. The staff members include Jake Julia, associate vice president and associate provost of academic initiatives, and Celina Flowers, project coordinator in the Office of the Provost.

The preliminary plan is to deliberate about internal candidates during the spring and then begin a national search in the fall, although the search committee will have the power to alter the set proposal. The committee is requesting nominations from NU faculty.
