Woman takes cigarettes from Jewel-Osco
A Chicago woman is accused of stealing a pack of cigarettes Sunday evening from the Jewel-Osco near Dempster Street, according to police.
Loss prevention agents stopped Norma Fuentes, 37, as she tried to leave the grocery store, 1128 Chicago Ave., with the item shortly after 5:30 p.m., Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. Surveillance footage also captured the incident.
The pack is valued at about $11, Parrott said.
Fuentes, of the 3300 block of West Pensacola Avenue, has been charged with retail theft. She is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 13.
$8K of jewelry taken from apartment near Main Street
About $8,000 worth of jewelry was stolen last week from an apartment near Main Street, according to police.
The 75-year-old resident believes movers took several pieces of jewelry from a small bowl on her kitchen counter in her apartment in the 900 block of Michigan Avenue, Parrott said. The incident happened between 2 and 5 p.m. on Nov. 4.
The jewelry included 11 rings, some with diamonds and others with emeralds, Parrott said.
