Evanston police zero in on west side after shots fired reports

Evanston police are paying closer attention to the city’s west side after several reports of shots fired in the area since last week.

The latest incident happened Tuesday afternoon near the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center in the 1600 block of Foster Street, police said.

Police also received reports of shots fired Sunday in the 1500 block of Cleveland Street and at the intersection of Emerson Street and Brown Avenue.

No one has come forward with injuries, according to police.

“Due to the increased level of incidents, police have deployed an increased amount of resources to the area to take necessary enforcement action if needed and create a safer environment for the community affected,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in a news release.

Detectives are questioning several individuals believed to be involved in the Tuesday incident, police said.
