James J. Johnson, 23, was arrested Saturday after he was identified as the man who allegedly shot at a car days earlier. Johnson, of the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

Evanston police arrested and charged a 23-year-old man Saturday in connection with shots fired at a car carrying several people days earlier.

James Johnson was walking near the intersection of Simpson Street and Darrow Avenue at about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday when someone in a nearby Chevrolet Blazer yelled at him, police said. Johnson took out a semi-automatic gun and fired several shots at the car.

Although the Blazer’s occupants never came forward, a college police intern who witnessed the incident provided enough information to arrest Johnson, according to police. In a statement, Johnson admitted his involvement in the shooting.

Johnson, of the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in court May 10.
