Wildcats named one of 20 most valuable college basketball programs

Have you ever wondered how much Northwestern basketball is worth?

Ryan Brewer did, and he estimates the Wildcats are worth $66 million. That figure, reported Monday by The Wall Street Journal along with 19 other teams’ values, places NU as the 20th most valuable program in the nation. The assistant professor of finance at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus placed a rough value on 100 Division I programs based on a variety of factors including revenue, expenses and expected growth.

Louisville led the way with an estimated worth of $211.5 million, while Indiana was the top Big Ten school, with a net worth of $130.8 million, good enough for third in the country. As a whole the Big Ten was the most valuable conference, with six schools in the top 20 and an average worth of $68.3 million.
