One arrested after parking lot gang fight

Police responded to the parking lot of Food 4 Less, 2400 Main St., Thursday afternoon after a gang-related fight broke out between two men, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

According to the victim, a man approached him and yelled out gang epithets before punching the victim in the face. A fight escalated until police arrived around 3:30 p.m. and arrested Miguel Castrejon of 934 Fowler Ave., police said.

Castrejon is charged with disturbing the peace. A court date is set for May 12.

Student robbed behind ETHS

A student was robbed Wednesday afternoon behind Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave., after he tried to buy a cell phone from an acquaintance, police said.

The student intended to make the transaction in the parking lot of the high school, but his acquaintance convinced him to walk to a house in the 1500 block of Pitner Avenue. When he arrived another man appeared and both men demanded the victim’s wallet and iPhone. One of the men held a metal object concealed by a black glove, which the student assumed to be a gun, Guenther said. The men then fled the area.
