As a three-time ASB participant, I’ve seen first-hand how much the program can contribute in just one week, and I know how closely site leaders have to watch their budgets, right down to the last quarter spent on tolls. If I were responsible for costing ASB hundreds of dollars in last-minute lodging fees, however directly or indirectly, I would offer to reimburse the organization in full. Prof. Bailey could not have predicted that one pastor in Southern Tennessee would react by kicking a student volunteer group out of his church like a bunch of money-lenders, but Bailey should have realized the risk that a few snarky articles on Gawker could have such measurable effects.
