School of Communication faculty members Todd Rosenthal and Anna Shapiro each received a 2008 Tony Award on June 15 for their work on Steppenwolf Theater drama August: Osage County. Rosenthal won for Best Scenic Design of a Play, while Shapiro won for Best Direction of a Play. The play itself won five 2008 Tony Awards out of seven nominations.
The School of Communication honored the 2008 winners in a Tony Award Winners Salute on Thursday, June 19, at the McCormick Tribune Center.
In addition, School of Communication alumna Barbara Gaines was awarded a 2008 Regional Theater Tony Award for her work as artistic director of the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
