Freshman basketball player decides to remain on team

Rumors circulating about another player thinking of leaving the Northwestern men”s basketball team were accurate, but can be put to rest: Freshman Evan Seacat will be with the Wildcats next season.

The guard never made his thoughts public, but Eldon Seacat, Evan”s father, confirmed that his son had been thinking of leaving the team. Eldon Seacat also said Evan, along with his family, had reached a decision to stay at NU.

‘Unless anything really big comes up, he”ll be back,’ Eldon Seacat said.

Seacat would have been the third underclassmen to leave NU this year. Sophomore center Thomas Soltau left before the Big Ten season and freshman forward Jimmy Maley, Seacat”s roommate, quit with three games left in the season.

Evan Seacat did not return The Daily”s phone calls.

Eldon Seacat said his son”s decision had more to do with personal issues than with basketball.

‘It was really more of a girlfriend thing,’ Eldon Seacat said.

Seacat played in 23 of NU”s 29 games and averaged 3.3 points and 6.6 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound sharpshooter served as an outside threat off the bench, attempting 66 of his 72 shots from beyond the arc.

Seacat eased into NU”s lineup as he worked to improve his ball handling, defense and knowledge of the offense.

‘Like anybody else, he would like to play a little more,’ Eldon Seacat said. ‘But that comes with hard work and practice.’
