Whether loud guffaws, nervous giggles or timid tee-hees, laughter has the same meaning in any language, as comedians proved Saturday night at the Marcus Marinho Comedy Beatdown.
A diverse audience of 380 students, alumni and prospective students filed into Patten Gym for the event sponsored by Alianza, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Associated Student Government.
The night’s first comedian, Armando Cosio, joked about troubles with family and neighbors, and moving from Mexico to California.
“There used to be a nice park where I lived, but now everyone deals drugs. Even the ducks deal drugs,” he said. “You go by at night and all you hear is, ‘Crack, crack, crack.'”
