Friko will be the second act on The Burrow stage at Dillo Day, Mayfest Productions announced Monday afternoon.
The band, founded in 2019 by three Evanston Township High School students, has been on the rise within Chicago’s indie rock music scene.
The four-member group recently released its second studio album, “Something Worth Waiting For,” in April, two years after its debut album, “Where we’ve been, Where we go from here.”
Songs from the new album like “Choo Choo” and “Seven Degrees” have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams on platforms such as Spotify.
“When Friko’s single ‘Seven Degrees’ came out during winter quarter this year, when it was about -7° degrees outside, I listened to it every day,” McCormick senior and Mayfest Bookings member Rachana Aluri said in a news release. “They’ve really tightened their sound as a band since their first album, and I felt the buzzing excitement of realizing they are finally at the cusp of their breakout moment this year. I can’t wait to see them jam out at Dillo Day.”
Following a stint of performances in Asia and Europe, the band will embark on a U.S. tour beginning in September. Friko’s Dillo Day performance is sponsored by campus radio station WNUR.

From their roots at ETHS, their standout two albums, and their wildly catchy melodies, Friko is a shining example of a band that spans all three of these categories,” WNUR General Manager Jon Myers said in a news release. “We are thrilled beyond thrilled to have them playing at this first year of Dillo’s Burrow stage and sharing their music with the NU Community!”
Dillo Day will take place Saturday at the Lakefill, and admission is free for Northwestern undergraduate students. Tickets must be reserved by May 14.
