After seven years of serving up personal pizzas, MOD Pizza baked its last pie at Norris University Center in July.
When I first saw the news of MOD’s closure, I could not believe my eyes. Immediately, I reposted the article on my Instagram with the caption: “I just fell to my knees.”
While I was not MOD’s biggest fan when I first stepped on campus in 2024, I grew to love it. I looked forward to having my pepperoni pizza with pesto after particularly difficult days. If I was tired, I would go to MOD to reward myself for making it through the day. If my friend had gossip to share, I would make sure it was over a MOD pizza.
Yes, I can admit that MOD is nowhere near the best pizza on Earth. But it’s not about the pizza itself; it’s about the feelings it inspired. A MOD pizza facilitated some of my hardest work and both my toughest and happiest days.
The business was replaced by the new pizza joint Forno Pizza Co. after MOD’s contract expired. The closest MOD now rests in Elmhurst, Illinois.
