Ben Greenspan has been named Northwestern baseball’s new head coach.
Greenspan comes to NU from the University of Michigan, where he was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the 2023 season. He previously held coaching positions at Arizona State and Indiana University, and will now look to help the Wildcats improve on last season’s 10-40 record.
“After an extensive nationwide search, Ben’s experience and coaching prowess quickly set him apart within the candidate pool,” Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Derrick Gragg said in a release. “With a proven track record of recruiting top talent and fostering growth, we’re confident Ben will lead our baseball program to new heights.”
The hire comes in the wake of allegations of bullying and abuse against former Head Coach Jim Foster. Fifteen players hit the transfer portal during his tenure, many due to an alleged toxic environment, and Foster was relieved of his duties in July.
“The program will be built around student athletes,” Greenspan said in a release about the position. “The Northwestern baseball program will be humble, respectful, transparent, competitive and a point of pride for this great institution.”
