The Tewaaraton Foundation included graduate student attacker Hailey Rhatigan as a second round addition to the 2023 Women’s Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday.

Rhatigan joins an elite group of athletes in contention for the Tewaaraton Award, which honors the top female college lacrosse player in the U.S. Graduate student attacker Izzy Scane, senior attacker Erin Coykendall, graduate student goalkeeper Molly Laliberty and sophomore defender Samantha White were named to the initial list in February. Freshman midfielder Madison Taylor earned a first round addition March 9.

After missing the first four contests of the season, Rhatigan made an immediate impact with a hat trick against Vanderbilt on March 4. In her first eight games for No. 2 Northwestern, the former Mercer standout scored 27 goals and registered six assists. Rhatigan sits third in the Big Ten in goals per game and fourth in points per game.

According to the Tewaaraton Foundation, the field of nominees will be narrowed down to 25 athletes April 20, before five finalists will be selected in May. The winner will be announced June 1 in Washington, D.C. Currently, Scane is the frontrunner to win the award.
