Dwight Hamilton will be Northwestern’s inaugural associate vice president of equity, the University announced Thursday.

According to a news release, Hamilton, who is currently the vice president of inclusion, diversity and equity at Smith College, will join NU on July 1. At NU, Hamilton will work toward sustaining the University’s commitment to preventing and combating sexual misconduct, while also promoting equal opportunity and access, the release said.

“Northwestern is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and safe campus, and Dwight Hamilton’s extensive experience will help us strengthen and improve our existing programs,” Provost Dan Linzer said in the release.

At Smith College, Hamilton built the college’s Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, and enhanced Smith’s Title IX practices and procedures, the release said.

In his new position at NU, Hamilton will be responsible for integrating the University’s Title IX Office and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, the release said.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Northwestern and especially to take on this challenging new position,” Hamilton said in the release.
