Police Blotter: Burglary reported at Evanston apartment

Nora Shelly, Assistant City Editor

Evanston police investigated a burglary report Sunday at an apartment in the 300 block of Callan Avenue.

During the burglary, which likely happened between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, a laptop valued at about $1500 was stolen and a TV was damaged, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. There were no signs of forced entry at the apartment, and the front door was found unlocked Friday, Dugan said.

Dugan said the burglary was likely not reported until Sunday because the person whose laptop was stolen was not aware of the burglary until then.

Man arrested in connection with marijuana possession

A 42-year-old Chicago man was arrested Sunday morning after someone reported that he was asleep on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Foster Street.

Police said the man appeared intoxicated and they had a warrant out for his arrest, so officers took him to the Evanston Police Department, where he urinated in the lockup room. Upon searching the man, officers found around 2.5 grams of marijuana in two separate bags.

Dugan said the man was charged for possession of cannabis, public intoxication and urinating in a public building — all misdemeanors.

The man’s court date is set for June 30.
